1The short version

This site sets no cookies at all until you say it can. There is one optional category, analytics, and it covers two tools: Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity. Say no and neither is loaded, so neither can set anything.

We do not advertise to you, we do not build a profile of you, and there is nothing here that follows you to another website.

2What a cookie is

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that the next request your browser makes can be recognised as coming from the same visit. Some are set by us, some by the tools we use.

Browsers also give a site two other places to keep things, local storage and session storage. They are not cookies, but they do the same job, so the law treats them the same way and so does this page.

3What runs whatever you choose

Two things, and neither of them is a tracker. They are how the site remembers a decision you made, so they run whether or not you accept analytics. You can clear both by clearing your browser data for this site.

NameKindWhat forHow long
eg_cookie_consentLocal storageYour answer to the cookie notice, so you are not asked on every pageUntil you clear it, and we ask again after twelve months
eg_attributionSession storageWhich link or campaign brought you here, attached to an enquiry if you send oneUntil you close the tab

Cloudflare also runs a check on the contact form to tell a person from a script. It may set a short-lived cookie on that page while the check happens. It is there to keep the form usable and it measures nothing about you.

4What runs only if you accept analytics

These are the ones you are being asked about. They tell us which pages get read, which get abandoned, and where something on the page is broken. They do not tell us who you are.

Google Analytics 4

CookieWhat forHow long
_gaTells one browser apart from another, without naming either2 years
_ga_*Keeps the state of a single visit2 years

Microsoft Clarity

CookieWhat forHow long
_clckKeeps a Clarity identifier for the browser1 year
_clskJoins the pages of one visit together1 day
CLIDIdentifies the visit to Clarity1 year
ANONCHKChecks whether cookies can be set at all10 minutes
MUIDMicrosoft’s own browser identifier13 months
SMSynchronises that identifier across Microsoft domainsSession

Clarity also records a playback of the session. Typed input, email addresses and anything else in a form field are masked before the recording leaves your browser, so what we watch back is where a cursor went, not what you wrote.

5What we do not use

No advertising cookies, no remarketing tags, no social pixels, no data brokers. If that ever changes, this page changes first and the notice asks you before anything loads. We are not going to slip a new category in under an old answer.

Most sites load their analytics on every visit and then tell the tools to behave. We do it the other way round. Until you accept, no request is made to Google or Microsoft at all, so there is nothing running that could set a cookie or record a session.

When you do accept, we use Google Consent Mode v2 and Microsoft’s consent API to state your choice to both tools before either of them starts. Withdraw it and we clear what we can reach and reload the page, which stops the rest.

7Changing your mind

Withdrawing has to be as easy as accepting was, so it is the same control in the same place. sits in the footer of every page on this site, and it reopens the notice with your current answer on it.

Your browser can do it too. Every one of them can block cookies, block third party cookies only, or clear everything when you close it. Blocking all cookies breaks things on most of the web, though it will not break this site, because nothing here needs one to work.

8Where to read more

Google and Microsoft each publish their own account of what they do with what they collect: policies.google.com/privacy and privacy.microsoft.com. What we do with the rest is in our privacy policy, including your rights over it and how to use them.

Anything this page does not answer goes to ask@endgame.work.
